Contemporary
Garden
Aspect: S.E. facing
Size of Garden: 9 m wide x 4.75 m deep
Brief: To create a calm, contemporary space
with integrated seating where the clients could both relax
& entertain. Low maintenance essential as the client has
little time for gardening. Privacy without being boxed in.
Concept: The space is broken up by creating
different levels which distract the eye from the back boundary
in this wide but shallow garden. The low brick walls are dressed
with trellis creating a series of vertical & horizontal
panels, breaking up the boundary and providing support for
climbers.
Integrated seating next to the house where the sun rests
for most of the day, provides a place to relax, while the
main deck leaves space for entertaining.
Planting is simple in shades of green and purple foliage
with strong seasonal foliage and / or bark colour provided
by Japanese Maples, Betula nigra, and Cotinus (Smoke Bush).
Bamboos, grasses and ferns feature strongly while the flowering
palette is restricted to red, dominated by the beautiful Dahlia
"Bishop of Lancaster". |
