Communal Garden
Aspect: W. facing
Size: Aprox 1.5 acres
Soil: Acid
Brief: To rejuvenate an established but
tired and overgrown garden used by a community of eight flats.
To create a new perennial border in the centre of the garden,
and replant the front garden and boundary borders. To improve
the view from the flats. Provide areas for seating and entertaining
in different parts of the garden.
Concept: By removing many of the old, overgrown
evergreen shrubs and replacing with a mixture of new evergreen
and deciduous shrubs inter planted with herbaceous perennials
and bulbs, a much more varied and seasonally interested planting
scheme will evolve. Emphasis on contrasting shape and form
is essential to creating a pleasing structure to the borders
and providing focal points around the garden.
New Areas include a "White Garden" surrounding
a dining area, a secluded Picnic spot, and a timber pergola
with bench seating planted with scented climbers.
