The Garden Design Process

Phase 1: Initial consultation

A no obligation site visit during which a full design brief will be taken, discussing your needs, ideas & budget. Putting forward some of our own and finding out about your lifestyle and how you will use your new garden. A full survey of the site can be taken at this stage. This is charged at £90 and is redeemable against the design fees if the project goes ahead. Alternatively the survey can be done following confirmation of the commission.

Phase 2: The Design

Once you have confirmed the commission in writing, we will produce a Garden Layout Plan. This is a fully annotated drawing showing landscape features such as terraces, ponds, paths and pergolas. Materials will be specified on the drawing and construction details, sketch drawings and cross sections will also be supplied as necessary to aid interpretation. Planting themes will be shown on the plan and include suggested species and proposed trees.

Detailed planting plans showing exact locations, sizes and quantities can be quoted for separately when the overall design is agreed.

The drawings will be returned in person at a time that suits you and we can explain and discuss the design and estimated costs of the scheme.

Minor amendments are not charged. However, if they are due to a radical change of mind on your part or unforeseen circumstances these changes are charged at an hourly rate.

Phase 3: Building

Caroline can assist in the engagement of Landscape Contractors and oversee the project from start to finish. This is the Design & Build option. Alternatively, you may wish to engage and manage a Landscape Contractor yourself and in this case we will be happy to make recommendations.

If you chose the Design & Build option we will check the contractor's quotations to ensure that recognised techniques are employed, that competitive prices are being charged and that there are no pitfalls or omissions. Before payments are made by you we check the quality of the work and suggest retention's and penalty clauses if needed. We will make as many site visits as necessary.

Fees for this service are a percentage of the total net construction costs for all elements of the garden excluding all the design fees and this is broken down into staged payments.

Phase 4: The Plants

The Planting Plan, detailing type, quantity and position of all plants is charged separately, with fees agreed at the start of the project. We can source, supply and deliver high quality plants at competitive prices. These can be then be planted by an in house team, the contractor or by yourselves.
